Evie Marie DeSalvo

March 24, 1966 - November 13, 2020

Evie DeSalvo, 54, of Florence, CO, passed away November 13, 2020 surrounded by her entire family. She fought a long battle with cancer with courage, strength, and grace to the very end.

Evie was the first of five children, and was born to Nick and Joan DeSalvo on March 24, 1966 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Pueblo, CO, and then settled in Penrose, CO in 1973 where she went on to attend Florence High School. She graduated with the class of ‘84, and was part of the state championship basketball team that year.

Evie spent her first year of college at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. Evie moved back to CO, and had her first child, Kaycie, in 1987. Shortly after Kaycie’s birth, Evie completed her Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene locally and began a 20-year career as a dental hygienist. Evie had a second daughter, Erica, in 1990. When the girls were young, Evie not only cared for them, but quickly rose the ranks in Mary Kay and went on to be a successful Director. In 1995, she had her first son, Jeremy, and had a second son, Logun, in 2005. Evie’s kids were her biggest pride and joy, and she would say that her purpose in life was to be a mother. When Erica gave birth to Evie’s first grandson, Mikey, in 2011, Evie was absolutely delighted. Her favorite thing in this world was being a Nana. Kaycie gave birth to Evie’s first granddaughter, Olive, in early 2019. She filled her world with so much joy.

Most recently, Evie was employed by JoAnn Grenard with Home Town Real Estate and the dental office of Jared M. Smith, DMD. She often expressed great gratitude for the flexibility and generosity of these employers as she navigated her illness.

Evie is known to her family and friends for her generous spirit and passion for life. She was endlessly devoted to those she loved. When you visited Evie, you always left with a full belly and a full heart. Besides her love for family and friends, Evie was also passionate about spending time in nature. She was an avid learner, always curious about the world around her. The last years of her life were dedicated to healing, and although her illness ultimately took her physical body, her fierce dedication to healing her body, mind, and spirit is an inspiration to many.

Evie is survived by her daughter Kaycie (Greg) Kimmich and granddaughter Olive Kimmich, daughter Erica (Micky) Koonce and grandsons Mikey Koonce and new baby on the way, son Jeremy Nelson, and his partner, Kaila Alberici, and son Logun Stoss. She is also survived by her parents Nick and Joan DeSalvo, and siblings Joe (Misty) DeSalvo, Domoni (Randy) Toler, Nicole (Jeff) Guerra, and Tony DeSalvo, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Evie will also be forever remembered by her extended family and dear friends. Also important in Evie’s life are Chandler Warren, Trevor Nelson, and Branson Stoss, the fathers of her children. Of special importance to Evie, and to her family, is her friend and caregiver, Margaret Goodall, who helped Evie, and her family, throughout Evie’s many years of fighting cancer and she did so with such compassion.

There will be a private service for Evie’s immediate family. According to Evie’s wishes, there will also be a “Farewell for Now Party” next spring when the weather is warmer and all of her friends and family can safely gather outdoors. The details for this event will be published at a later date. If you wish to contribute to a memorial fund for Evie’s final expenses, you may do so through the Evie DeSalvo Memorial Fund (GoFundMe):  https://gf.me/u/y8yfsj
